Applications for Fulbright Graduate Scholarship
The U.S. Embassy’s Office of Public Affairs is offering scholarships to Jamaican university graduates interested in helping to further Jamaica’s development. The scholarships will cover full tuition and tuition-related costs for two years of study to pursue either a Master's Degree or a Ph.D. in the Humanities or Social Sciences at an American university.
Elsa Goveia Memorial Lecture
The Annual Elsa Goveia Memorial Lecture hosted by the Department of History and Archaeology at the UWI Mona Campus is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 6 at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, beginning at 5.00 p.m. The lecturer will be Professor Alvin Thompson, Professor of Caribbean History at the UWI Cave Hill Campus. He will speak on the topic Maroon Struggles and the Ideology of Freedom. Interested persons are invited to attend.
Faculty of Social Sciences Leadership Forum
The Faculty of Social Sciences will host the next in the series of Political Forum - Jamaica the Way Forward on Thursday, April 21 at the Undercroft of the Senate Building from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The speaker will be Dr. the Hon Omar Davies, Minister of Finance and Planning. The forum will begin with a vision statement by the presenter to be followed by a moderated discussion of about 90 minutes in which UWI faculty, students and members of the public and the media will engage in a wide ranging discussion of the issues. Nursing Midwifery Conference
“Quality Nursing Care Through Evidence Based Practice “ is the theme of the Annual Nursing Midwifery Research Conference and Mary Seivwright Day to be held by the Department of Advanced Nursing Education (DANE), the University of the West Indies (UWI) at the Jamaica Conference Center, Kingston, May 12 and 13.
The University Chorale
The University Chorale, under the tutelage of well-known composer and choir director Mr. Noel Dexter, is ‘coming of age’ with its first ever Concert Season, at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI from April 22–24. The season will be heralded by a Lunch Hour Concert, a teaser and Press Launch on Thursday April 7 at 1:00 p.m. Admission is Free.
The season opens with a special performance for university, college and high school students on Friday April 22 at 5:p.m. Admission is $200.
8th International Reunion Conference
The UWI Medical Alumni Association will host its 8th International Reunion Conference at the Grenada Grand Beach Resort, St. Georges, Grenada,
from November 8–13. Alumni from all the
Caribbean countries, USA, Canada and Great
Britain are expected to attend the reunion. This
year’s theme is which has its theme “UWI and
Medical Education for the Caribbean and the World
in the 21st Century.” One of the highlights will
be the feature address by Professor E. Nigel
Harris, Vice Chancellor, University of the West

Brown Bag Discussion
The Instructional Development Unit (IDU) presents
a Brown Bag Discussion on “Dance Therapy: to
Dance or Not to Dance”. Is there a role for
dancing in maintaining a healthy physical, mental
and behavioural lifestyle? Come and find out.

Conference on Human Retrovirology: HTLV and Related Viruses
The 12th International Conference on Human
Retrovirology: HLTV and Related viruses will be
held at the Half Moon Hotel from June 22-25. The
Conference is organized by the International
Retrovirology Association in collaboration with
the University of the West Indies, Mona. This is
the second time that Jamaica is the host for this
biennial conference, which is expected to bring
