IDU Workshop
The Instructional Development Unit (IDU) will host another in its workshop series on Wednesday, March 2 beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the IDU Training Room (upstairs the Inter-Faculty Lecture Theatre). The Department of Literatures in English, Mona will host Olive Senior reading her work on Wednesday, March 2 at 6:00 p.m. in the Multi Functional Room, Main Library.
Philip Sherlock Centre Anniversary Week 2005
The week of February 21-27 will mark the Anniversary of the Philip Sherlock Centre. This year the occasion will be celebrated with a series of events acknowledging Black History Month and presented in collaboration with local and foreign cultural institutions.
Symposium on Single Market and Economy
The Office of Placement and Career Services will host a career symposium entitled “The CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME)-Implications for Integration” on Tuesday, February 22. The symposium will take place at the Undercroft, Senate Building, UWI beginning at 6:00 p.m. Presenters will include Professor the Honourable Kenneth Hall, Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal, UWI, Mona; Mr. Robert Gregory, C.E.O. HEART Trust/NTA; Honourable K.D. Knight, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Mrs. Jacqueline Coke-Lloyd, Executive Director, Jamaica Employers Federation (JEF).
The Julien Fedon Memorial Prize
The UWI School of Continuing Studies – Grenada Centre and the Institute for People’s Enlightenment in Grenada are inviting applications for the annual Julien Fedon Memorial Prize for outstanding work by UWI students in History. The student must be from one of the countries of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). This student may be either at the Bachelors or Post Graduate level from any UWI Campus.
Annual Award Ceremony
The Faculty of Social Sciences will hold its Annual Award Ceremony to recognise top achievers in the Faculty on Thursday, February 24 at the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre, beginning at 5.30 p.m. Guest Speaker at the ceremony will the Chief Executive Officer of Management Institute for National Development (MIND), Mrs. Maria Jones.
Annual Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week
Members of the public are invited to participate in the Annual Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week which take place at the Mona Campus over the period February 17 – 27. The week begins on Friday with a Flag Raising Ceremony and University Parade to highlight the regional nature of the institution. Staff, students and alumni will participate in the parade which will be led by members of the Jamaica Military Band. The Annual Commemoration Service will be held in the University Chapel on Sunday, February 20 at 9:00 a.m. The service will be conducted by Rev. Fr.
British Virgin Islands Conference
The School of Continuing Studies of the University of the West Indies is pleased to announce the holding of the British Virgin Islands Conference, from May 26-28, in the British Virgin Islands. The British Virgin Islands Conference is a multi-disciplinary conference focusing on issues relevant to the British Virgin Islands. This is the tenth conference in the School's Country Conference Series. The conference will be open to the public and will provide a forum for the discussion of local issues.
Colombian Film
The Latin American-Caribbean Centre of the University of the West Indies in collaboration with The Embassy of Colombia presents the Colombian Film: MARIA FULL OF GRACE, the story of determination and survival of a young drug "mule", starring Oscar nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno. This film (in Spanish with English subtitles) will be shown on Wednesday, February 16 at 8:00 p.m. at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), Faculty of Humanities and Education, UWI. Admission is free and is for persons 17 years and older.
Creative Market Place
Kuumba – Creative Market Place will take place on the lawns of the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts from February 24 – 25 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Please come and purchase locally made items including jewellery, clothes, household items, gift items etc.
