The Instructional Development Unit (IDU) will host a Brown Bag Discussion entitled “Motivating Students – Is there a Role for Faculty?” on Thursday December 9, at 1:00 p.m. In the Training Room of the IDU (upstairs Inter-Faculty Lecture Theatre). Masters Programme in International Economics International Law

Candidates are invited to apply for entry to the Masters Programme in International Economics and International Law. The programme is designed to produce graduates with the knowledge and skills required to work in the challenging arena of international trade negotiations. The programme is open to candidates with a first degree from a recognised university with at least upper second class honours, preferably in economics or law.

The Department of Library and Information Studies

The Department of Library and Information Studies cordially invites you to a presentation on Electronic Records Management. Prof. Wendy Duff of the Faculty of Information Studies at the University of Toronto will make a presentation on the issues and challenges of managing electronic records and will also describe research going on in this area. The presentation will take place on Thursday December 9 at 5:00 p.m. at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Humanities and Education, University of the West Indies, Mona.

The University Scholarship Examination - 2005

Applications are invited from persons wishing to sit the University Scholarship Examination which is to be held on March 7 and 8, 2005. The University administers on its own behalf and on behalf of the governments and private donors a number of scholarships and exhibitions on the basis of the performance of candidates in the annual scholarship examination. Persons who will be applying to enter The University of the West Indies in August 2005 and first year students who entered the University in August 2004 are eligible to apply.

UWI Scores “First” with e-Commerce Facility

The Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies became the first educational institution within the island and the first Campus in the UWI network to offer an e-Commerce facility when the electronic commerce system was officially launched at the Undercroft of the Senate Building on the Campus on Thursday, December 1. Phase one of the new facility will allow students to pay tuition and miscellaneous fees on line, pay for transcripts and also make donations to the institution.

Annual Teaching Skills Workshop

The Instructional Development Unit, UWI, Mona will host its annual Teaching Skills Workshop from Tuesday, January 11 to Thursday, January 13, 2005. The 3-day workshop is designed to enhance the skills required for effective instruction at the University level. The workshop’s objectives include: increasing participants’ awareness of how students learn; Helping participants identify problems students might have coping with meeting the demands of University courses, and exploring techniques and strategies to help students learn effectively.

Barbados Students Association

The Barbados Students’ Association of Jamaica (BSAJ) will launch its annual Independence celebrations on November 24. The celebrations begin with an independence display at the Libraries of the Mona Campus and the University of Technology (UTech), running from November 24 to December 2, followed by the BSAJ lime for all Barbadian students at the UWI Mona Pool on November 27 at 5:00 p.m. Members of the Association will mark Independence Day on November 30 with a flag raising ceremony at the A.Z.

Foreign Language Assistants Programme in France

The French Government will be allocating some positions to Jamaican English Language Assistants for next academic year. These positions will be available in Mainland France as well as in French overseas departments of Guadeloupe and Martinique. The aim of this programme is to allow Jamaican foreign assistants to master the French language and customs while providing French students with the authenticity of their language and the richness of their culture. This programme is open to Jamaican professionals and students aged 20 to 30.
