HR Division, ID Processing Centre Relocated to ODT

As a result of the severe damage caused by hurricane Ivan, the Human Resources Division and the ID Processing Centre formerly located at 4 Gibraltar Camp Way have been relocated to the Old Dramatic Theatre. Monthly Colombian Film Series

The Latin American-Caribbean Centre in collaboration with the Embassy of Colombia in Jamaica cordially invites members of the campus community and the public to the 8th in its monthly Colombian Film Series, titled " CONFESION A LAURA". (90 minutos; 1991). The film is directed by Jaime Osorio Gómez and produced by Alexandra Cardona Restrepo involving Colombia, Cuba and Spain. Actors are Vicky Hernández, Gustavo Londoño, María Cristina Gálvez. The film, which is in Spanish, will be shown on Thursday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the New Education Lecture Theatre, (NELT), UWI, Mona.

Study Skills Workshop

The Study Skills Workshop series put on by the University Counselling Service originally scheduled to begin on September 16, will now begin on September 23 at 2.00 p.m. in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1) Faculty of Humanities and Education. The other four sessions will take place on October 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2004.

Sylvia Palmer

The University of the West Indies has learnt with regret of the passing of Ms. Sylvia Palmer, Laboratory Attendant in the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medical Sciences. The University extends sincerest condolences to her family and friends. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

UWI 1970s Alumni Reunion 2004

The Office of Alumni Relations at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus wants to get in touch with all alumni who graduated from the Campus between 1970 and 1979. A Seventies Reunion Week is being planned for October this year as part of Alumni Month. Alumni who graduated from any UWI campus during this period are invited to come back to UWI to have a grand time of fun, memories and lots of laughter. Alumni from other decades are also welcome to participate.

Highpoints of Principal’s Address

Classes Resume Sept. 20
• Classes at the UWI, Mona Campus will resume on Monday, September 20, 2004. Registration activities will also resume at that time and continue through to Friday, September 24.
• Students who normally reside on campus are advised that they should return to the Halls of Residence on Sunday, September 19.
• Staff and students, including those who reside on campus, are advised that they should bring their own drinking water until the supply from the National Water Commission returns to normal.

Principal Meets with Staff re Hurricane Ivan

In the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, Principal of the UWI, Mona Campus, Professor the Hon. Kenneth Hall, met with members of staff on Friday, September 17, 2004 at the Undercroft of the Senate Building to update them on developments since the hurricane and plans for the operation of the campus.

Scent of An Oak

The Latin American-Caribbean Centre of The University of the West Indies in association with the Distinguished Embassy of Cuba and CuJam Enterprises Ltd cordially invites you to the viewing of the film Scent of an Oak and presentation by Director Rigoberto Lopez Pego, Film Produced by the Cuban Institute of Cinema Art and Industry-ICAIC on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the New Education Lecture Theatre (NELT), UWI. Parking will be available in the Faculty of Humanities and Education parking lot, opposite Mary Seacole Hall of Residence. Admission is free.

Course in Business Communication

The Department of Language, Linguistics & Philosophy is offering a new course in Business Communication for all level 3 students who wish to master the art of communication in the professional business world. This course will enable students to: develop proposals, prepare reports, give effective oral presentations and communicate in a businesslike and professional manner.
