Professor Errol Miller Receives Education International Albert Shanker Award
Professor of Teacher Education in the Institute of Teacher Education at the UWI, Mona Campus, Professor Errol Miller, has been named the recipient of the 2004 Education International Albert Shanker Education Award. The Albert Shanker Award is given to a teacher or other education employee in recognition of an outstanding personal contribution to education. The awardee’s professional action must have demonstrated that quality education requires quality teachers and education employees.
Registration Packages
All successful applicants to UWI, Mona Campus, excepting those persons awaiting CAPE/A Level results for the Faculties of Social Sciences and Humanities and Education are reminded that they should collect their registration packages. The packages may be collected up to August 3 in the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Social Sciences and from August 4 to August 20 from the Assembly Hall, August 23 to August 26 from the New Education Lecture Theatre at Mona. The collection centres are open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.
The 8th Biennial Staff Intercampus Games
The recently concluded 8th Biennial Staff Intercampus Games saw the Mona Campus copping five of the eight titles contested, over the Cave Hill and St. Augustine Campuses. The Games were keenly contested from July 19 to July 24, 2004 at the Mona Bowl. There were competitions in Netball, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Track, and Cricket.
The American Institute of Cancer Research (AICR)
The American Institute of Cancer Research is inviting applications for its Investigator-Initiated Research Grant programme from researchers at not-for-profit universities, hospitals or research centres worldwide.
The Office of Graduate Studies and Research
The Office of Graduate Studies and Research, UWI, Mona is advising all new and returning graduate students that they may collect their registration packages at the Office as of August 3. Students are further advised that if they wish to collect their packages at the nearest University Centre they should call the Office of Graduate Studies and Research at 935-8263 or 935-8708 or email postgrad@uwimona.edu.jm The normal registration period is September 6 to 10. Late registration will be accepted September 13-17 on payment of a late registration fee.
UWIAA Office Closure
The UWI Alumni Association's Office - Docuspot, will be closed from Monday, August 2 - Friday, August 6, 2004, inclusive. The office will re-open on Monday, August 9, 2004.
Vincent HoSang Entrepreneurship Incubation Programme
The Mona School of Business, UWI is inviting qualified persons to submit entries to the Vincent HoSang Entrepreneurship Incubation Programme. The programme is opened to final year undergraduate students, graduate students and researchers at the UWI Mona Campus. The Vincent HoSang Entrepreneurship Incubation Programme is an initiative sponsored by prominent and successful Jamaican entrepreneur based in the USA, Mr. Vincent HoSang.
2005 Fellowships to Assist Research and Artistic Creation
The John Simon Guggenheim Foundation has announced its two annual round of fellowships, one of which is open to citizens of Latin America and the Caribbean. The Fellowships are to further the development of scholars and artists by assisting them to engage in research in any field of knowledge and creation in any of the arts, under the freest possible conditions and irrespective of race, color, or creed. The foundation notes that Fellowships are meant for advanced professionals in mid-career, not those just beginning their careers.
A Call for Applications in Ecosystems Approaches to Human Health
The International Development Research Centre in collaboration with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research has issued a call for applications in Global Community of Practice in Ecosystem Approaches to Human Health. Researchers from Canada and Latin America and the Caribbean are asked to jointly develop and submit proposals that contribute to the consolidation and expansion of a Global Community of Practice in Ecohealth in Latin American and the Caribbean.
