Profile/Bio

Dr. Maite Villoria Nolla is a Lecturer and Head of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of The West Indies. She received her BA in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Southampton, UK, and her MA and PhD in Latin American Studies from the University of Nottingham, UK.

Research Interests

Dr. Villoria's research interests are in Hispanic Studies (Latin American and Spanish studies) and Spanish Language. The main areas of research include Hispanic detective fiction, narco-culture in literature and film, historical and collective memory, and the rearticulation of urban imaginaries in Latin American literature and film. She has presented her work at over 30 international conferences and published in international journals such as Iberoamericana (Liverpool, UK) and Cuadernos de Literatura (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogota) among others. She also serves on the editorial boards of academic journals in the Caribbean, Spain and the USA.
