Across the globe, International Men’s Day was observed on November 19. In commemoration, the Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS) at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) hosted a Vice-Chancellor’s Forum that examined gender policies and equity, shed light on redefining masculinity and honoured men who fight for gender justice, those who reshape traditional norms for gender roles, and men who nurture and upkeep the positive ideals of fatherhood.

$26.7 m in scholarship funding for UWI Mona students following AFUWI visit

The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona Campus hosted seven members of the American Foundation of the University of the West Indies (AFUWI) Board of Trustees on their recent visit to Jamaica in October. The visit culminated in a donation of more than JM$26 m in scholarships for UWI Mona Students. The Board also met with the Senior Management of the Campus to hold a round of talks on how the Foundation can further support the University.

More than 4000 students from the Class of 2022 will be conferred with degrees, diplomas, and certificates by The University of the West Indies (The UWI) as the Mona Campus hosts its Face-to-Face Graduation Ceremonies from November 3-5, 2022. The Campus will, for the first time, host five (5) Ceremonies over three days - all of which will be broadcasted on UWI TV and social media.

Graduands at The UWI Cave Hill Campus to set a record number of First Class Honours

A record number of students will be awarded first class honours when The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus reverts to its annual in-person graduation ceremony for the first time in three years. Following the relaxation of COVID-19 protocols in Barbados, the spectacular ceremony returns to the Campus grounds on Saturday, October 22.

Among those walking the stage will be about 150 graduands who will be recognised for outstanding performance at the postgraduate level, as well as nearly 200 who will receive first class honours degrees at the undergraduate level.

12 UWI students selected for international Millennium Fellowship

Twelve undergrad students from The University of the West Indies (The UWI) are among the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2022, an international cohort of student leaders awarded fellowships to manage real-world projects that help advance The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 National Honours for 2022 bestowed on 10 members of The UWI Family

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Mona congratulates the recipients of some of Jamaica’s highest honours in the 2022 National Honours and Awards. The honourees were recognised at the National Honours and Awards Ceremony, on National Heroes Day – Monday, October 17, 2022, on the lawns of King’s House.

The UWI community proudly notes that among the honourees are several current and former members of The UWI Mona staff and Honorary Graduates, these include four members who received the Jamaican honours system – The Order of Jamaica. They were:
