MONA AGEING AND WELLNESS CENTRE TO CLOSE ON DECEMBER 17 AND RE-OPEN IN JANUARY

The Mona Ageing and Wellness Centre  (MAWC) at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, will be closed on Friday, December 17, 2021, and will re-open on Monday, January 3, 2022. MAWC is one of the vaccination sites approved by the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW), its closure means the site will not be accessible to the public for persons to receive vaccines for this period.

Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr Farley R. Cleghorn has responded to the announcement of an endowment established by The University of the West Indies Medical Alumni Association (UWIMAA), with a generous donation of US $250,000. It is the endowment’s largest donation to date as the UWIMAA seeks to raise US $1.5 million toward medical sciences programmes in honour of The UWI’s 75th and the Association’s 33rd anniversary in 2023.

The UWI confers seven retired Professors with ‘Emeritus’ title

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce the conferral of the title of ‘Emeritus’ on seven retired Professors. The decision on the conferrals was made during a virtual University Finance and General Purposes Committee meeting held in late October.

‘Emeritus’ designation is given to persons who retired in the rank of ‘Professor’—in recognition of their distinguished and exemplary careers—and generally allows these individuals to retain their titles. The list of new Professors Emerti follows.

This declaration, made by Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, came during the annual Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence hosted by The University of the West Indies (The UWI) on Thursday November 25.

In a live, virtual Awards ceremony, broadcast via UWItv, seven staff members and one department from across the UWI system were presented with the Awards which represent the regional University’s highest accolade.
