Barry Chevannes, is Professor of Social Anthropology and Dean
of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the UWI, Mona. He has published
extensively on issues of gender, religious ideology and Rastafari
culture. Among his publications are Rastafari: Roots and Ideology
(1995), the edited collection Rastafari and Other African-Caribbean
Worldviews (1994, reprint 1998) and Learning to be a Man: Culture,
Socialization and Male Identity in Five Caribbean Communities
(2001). He is involved in Fathers Inc. in Jamaica and is a recipient
of the (UWI) Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence.
