Wilma Bailey is Professor of Medical Geography at the Mona
Campus of the UWI where she teaches courses in Bio-geography,
and Health and Society. While seconded to The Sir Arthur
Lewis Institute for Social & Economic Studies (SALISES),
Professor Bailey was Chief Investigator in a Ford-funded
project on reproductive health. So far, thirteen published
monographs and papers have been based on this project.
These include “Gender and the Family in the Caribbean”,
“Gender, Contest and Conflict in the Caribbean”,
“Street Culture” and the “Decay of Community”.
The research team received the Principal's Award for distinguished
research for 2002. Her current research focus is on HIV/AIDS
and education, gender differentials in education and health
utilization.
