Marjorie Thorpe is a graduate of Mc Gill and Queens Universities,
(Canada). Dr Thorpe served on the faculty of the U.W.I. for some
twenty years. During that time, she served as Campus and University
Dean of the Faculty of Arts & General Studies and was a founding
member of the Women Studies Group at the St Augustine campus.
Her publications include articles and conference papers on Women
in Literature, Gender and Development, and Sustainable Human Development.
She was named Trinidad & Tobago's Ambassador to the United
Nations, New York from 1988-1992. In 1992 she was appointed
Deputy Director of The United Nations Development Fund for
Women (UNIFEM), New York. She returned to the region in
1995 and, until 1999, served as Resident Coordinator of
the UN system in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, and
UNDP Resident Representative for the same area.
