Overview: The preceding decade has experienced a multiplicity of crime reduction strategies that have seemingly failed to meet targets in western Jamaica. The tourism hub and bourgeoning financial Mecca, the second city continues to be overshadowed by the scourge of crime and violence. The illicit gains of lottery scamming have further complicated efforts of crime reduction and players in the game range from the young to the old, rich to the poor, male and female and the uneducated to the educated.

Overview: The Village is an interactive and participatory themed exhibition for visitors to explore and learn more about our research. Special exhibits will also pinpoint contributions made by Mona researchers to Policy development, spotlight upcoming researchers, and unveil emerging studies. Open to the Public, visiting students and campus community.
DEPARTMENT OF GOVERNMENT will be hosting a TEDx (Ted Talk) on Wed Feb 6 as a Signature Event. This will be a massive undertaking led by the students with support from DGOV faculty. It is expected that JTB and/or Sandals will sponsor the event.
Overview: Persons attending this panel discussion will hear from experts (researchers and practitioners) about key strategies for sustaining violence reduction in Jamaica (and which may be applicable elsewhere in the Caribbean). Attendees will hear about current innovations, evidence-based practices in violence reduction and crime control policy.
