Faculty of Law, UWI MONA

The Faculty of Law was established at The University of West Indies in 1970. Its primary objective is to provide an academic qualification which is compulsory prerequisite to professional legal training for lawyers in the Commonwealth Caribbean. However, the traditional basic legal skills of concise and pertinent oral argument, systematic and relevant presentation of essential issues, clarity and precision of written options and detached and balanced judgment are also useful and reliable skills for other professions such as the Civil and Police Service, Accountancy, Banking and Commerce.

Organization of American Sates

The Organization of American States is the world’s oldest regional organization, dating back to the First International Conference of American States, held in Washington, D.C., from October 1889 to April 1890. That meeting approved the establishment of the International Union of American Republics, and the stage was set for the weaving of a web of provisions and institutions that came to be known as the inter-American system, the oldest international institutional system.

Street Law South Africa

Street Law South Africa is a non-profit company that specialises in presenting participatory legal, human rights and democracy education. It also provides opportunities for training in democracy, participatory development and policy development. The project provides preventative legal education to both formal and informal communities, promoting fundamental rights, freedoms, participation and democratic cultures. It has grown into a prominent democracy, human rights and legal education programme. The project provides a practical understanding of the law, the legal system, human rights, democracy, The South African Constitution and its Bill of Rights.

Jamaica Chamber of Commerce

The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce is a membership-based organization comprised of businesses and professionals working together to build and promote a healthy economy and to improve the quality of life in our country. The primary functions however is to ensure the most favourable environment for the effective and profitable operation of businesses. Considerable emphasis is placed on projects which will enhance the development of the wider community. The primary function is subdivided into services offered by the Chamber and specific activities that it carries out, in its role as economic advisor and business advocate.

Montego Bay Chambers of Commerce

After some seven decades of an illustrious existence, the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry is now poised for an even more productive and exciting future. The Chamber faces may challenges which from time to time have caused it to not just be a body that seemingly represents “big business interests”, but one that seeks to represent the interests and concerns of the wider society, including the small business sector.

WOMEN BUSINESS OWNERS JAMAICA LIMITED

Women Business Owners Jamaica Limited (WBO) was established in 2003 to foster and promote the success of women business owners through education, research, mentorship and networking.

Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts

The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts has been through several stages in its evolution. The four Schools—Drama, Music, Dance, and Visual Arts—started out at different locations in Kingston. Two of the Schools, namely the School of Art and the School of Music, are historic because of their establishment in 1951 and 1961 respectively, before the island gained its independence from Britain in 1962.
