Dr. Patrick Prendergast is a senior lecturer in Development Communication and the Director of the Caribbean School of Media and Communication.
Prendergast returns to CARIMAC after 15 years at The University of the West Indies, Mona – Western Jamaica Campus, Montego Bay, Jamaica, where he served as CARIMAC Coordinator and lecturer prior to serving as Campus Director from May 1, 2015 to July 31, 2024.
Prendergast has over three decades of experience in creative and cultural arts, media production, teaching, curriculum development, educational administration, as well as local and international experience in programme design and planning, and popular education. His areas of focus include community media and rural development, sustainable development, and issues of Caribbean masculinities.
He is a member of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC), and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).
Prendergast holds a Doctorate in Community Communication (University of Amsterdam), and graduate and undergraduate degrees in Social and Behaviour Change Communication, Social Marketing, and Television Production (University of the West Indies). He also holds a Diploma in Theatre Arts with a major in Directing and Community Drama (Jamaica School of Drama).
