FAQ's

Do I have to register in person?

Registration is done online at the website ielts.britishcouncil.org. 

Can I take the test if I do not live in Jamaica?

We welcome candidates from anywhere in the world, so long as their application forms are received by the deadline and there is space available. It is the candidate’s responsibility to arrange his or her own travel and accommodation.

When can I collect my results?

For paper-based, the results will be made available from the IELTS Exam Centre, Department of Language, Linguistics & Philosophy, The Faculty of Humanities & Education, The University of the West Indies, Mona, Kingston 7, on the 13th day following the test date- excluding holidays.

Results must be collected in person with the same ID used on your test day or a courier can be employeed to collect on your behalf, this courier must be provided with your full name, test date and candidate number and the office MUST be informed of this beforehand. Lastly, if a third party is employed to pick up the results on your behalf, the candidate MUST provide the test-center with a letter of authorization(physical or via email) with both the candidate's and the third party's full name and the candidate's test date and candidate number,  the third-party must carry a valid ID when picking the results. 

For computer-based, the candidate will recieve an email within 3 - 5 days after their test date ,when the results are ready.

May I re-sit the IELTS test?

You may take the IELTS test as many times as you wish.

Will I be able to transfer to another test date?

A request for a transfer of Test Dates MUST be received at least 5 weeks before the elected Test Date. All requests for transfers will attract a 25% administrative fee. (Please see policies at ielts.org.)

What if I am not satisfied with my test results?

Candidates may apply for a re-mark termed Enquiry on Results (EOR), at the centre where they took the test. This MUST be done within 6 weeks of the test date. The candidate can choose which sections of the tests are re-marked. The EOR fee is now J$15,000.00.00. This amount will be refunded if there is an increase in your scores. Nothing will be refunded if there is no change or if the scores decrease. An EOR takes up to 3 weeks to be completed. This cost must be paid to our account number 402609729 and the receipt produced at the IELTS office before the documents are sent for re-marking.
