Laboratories

The Faculty of Engineering, the home of UWI Mona Engineering, boasts some of the best university facilities in the nation for a variety of labs and research areas.

The Faculty of Engineering (MSE) Video Conferencing & Computer Laboratory is to facilitate virtually flipped class with the University of Florida (UF) and more to come in the near future. The teaching of the MSE Controls class (by Prof. Latchman) using technology mediated mechanisms as well as the flipped cross room approach, is part of an ongoing research project on innovative teaching methods in the University of Florida’s Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department.

The Mechanics of Solids Laboratory is equipped to test and analyze the behaviour of different materials. The lab is equipped with a Universal Testing Machine that can do compression, tension and 3-point load testing. The lab is also equipped to do hardness and torsional strength tests on materials, as well as impact load testing.

The Fluid Mechanics Laboratory is equipped with a number of hydraulic equipment used for testing the physical properties of fluids as it relates to its movement through pumps, pipes, channels and other simulated civil engineering structures.

The Engineering & Computer Science Laboratory provides a space for students to work on compters.

The Electrical & Electronics Engineering Laboratory exists to produce new knowledge about basic electronics and power engineering and to contribute to training the next generation of world-class engineers. It houses fifty (50) work stations (each having a power breadboard, oscilloscope, function generator and a multi-meter).

The Control Systems Laboratory is equipped to test and analyze the operation of basic control systems.
