On behalf of all staff of the Faculty of Engineering (FEN) of The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, I happily welcome all new and returning students for the 2026/2027 Academic Year! By choosing engineering, you have chosen to be a builder, an innovator and a problem solver. You are stepping into a field that directly shapes our world; from designing sustainable infrastructure and developing clean energy solutions to advancing digital transformation and smart systems across Jamaica, the wider Caribbean and the globe.

The UWI, Mona has been globally ranked by Times Higher Education to be in the top 1.5% of universities globally. The BSc Electronics Engineering programme is internationally accredited by the North American engineering accrediting body ABET. We are the only Faculty with an ABET accredited programme in Jamaica. All other engineering programmes within the Faculty are currently being revised and will be submitted to ABET for similar accreditation. The Faculty continues to work hard towards creating a Global hub for engineering teaching, research and practice; with strong synergies with our industrial, academic and commercial partners.

Our focus on the continuous improvement of our programmes along with building upon the UWI’s 2022 – 2027 strategic plan, ensures that the Faculty of Engineering remains at the forefront of the UWI’s continued reputation as an institution of global excellence. All indicators of success are on the rise. Our graduates who enter the workforce are among the most demanded by industries. Those who decide to further their studies have had their excellence awarded with Chevening Scholarships and we are proud to share also recipients of the prestigious Rhodes scholarship! Our Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) research degree programmes commenced in 2018 and have been going well. A MSc in Engineering and Management, which is a taught degree programme, which commenced in September 2021, is also offered.

Here at the Faculty of Engineering, our goal is to provide you with a world-class, rigorous and practical education. You will be challenged to think critically, work collaboratively and apply theory to real-world challenges inside our lecture rooms and laboratories. Beyond academics though, your time here is also about growth, leadership and building lifelong connections. We encourage your participation in the activities of the official student governing body, the Mona Engineering Society (MES) as well as the student engineering clubs (JIE, IEEE, I-StructE) - balance is key to a rewarding university experience.
