On behalf of the UWI Mona Medical Students' Association, I am honoured to invite you to attend Cul-Med: Where Culture Meets Medicine! on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 12 - 2pm, at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, UWI Mona. 

 

Cul-Med is a vibrant initiative that explores the intersection of culture and medicine, with the aim of fostering health literacy, preventive care awareness, and community engagement among students, faculty, and the wider public. 

 

For 2026, our theme places a special focus on cardiovascular health, with a central panel discussion titled, “Under Pressure: Cardiovascular Health and the Caribbean Experience” with Professor Madu.

The programme includes:

  • Cultural Village of 16 vendors showcasing culinary delights and arts from across the region by students and established business entrepreneurs; 12 - 2 pm; at the FMS Amphitheatre

  • Storytelling rooted in Caribbean lived experience by Dr. Amina Blackwood Meeks,OD; 12:40 - 1:10 pm; Lecture Theatre 3

  • Panel Discussion“Under Pressure: Cardiovascular Health and the Caribbean Experience” led by Professor Madu , Founder and Chairman of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean; 1:10 - 2 pm ; Lecture Theatre 3

  • Interactive wellness activations
  • Free giveaways
