The Relationship between Somatotype and Dietary Intake of 6 to 13 Year-old, Rural South African Children: Ellisras Longitudinal Study

Synopsis: 
The relationship between dietary intake and somatotype attracts interest to many scientists. In the Ellisras rural children of South Africa, energy and total protein intake were significantly related to endomorphy. The risk of obesity among girls was eminent in the sample.

ABSTRACT

 Objectives:  Development of obesity related to dietary intake was linked to four stages of human growth. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between somatotype and dietary intake of Ellisras rural children aged 6 to 13 years.

An Assessment of Dietary and Physical Activity Behaviours of Adolescents in Selected Secondary Schools in Guyana

Synopsis: 
Dietary and physical activity behaviours of Guyanese adolescents’ survey revealed that only one-tenth of youth are consuming daily recommended fruit and vegetable intake. Only half of youth participate in vigorous physical activity and less than half in moderate physical activity.

ABSTRACT

Background: In Guyana, the five leading causes of death are ischaemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, cancer, diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Maintaining healthy eating habits and adequate daily physical activity could prevent many of these conditions.
