Congratulations| Dr. Pauline O. Lawrence & Dr. Carlton G. Davis (Postgraduate) Scholarship Awardees 2021-2022

L-R: Jacquel Johnson, Andeno Nelson and Dorian Morris

The Faculty of Science and Technology extends congratulations to Jacquel Johnson (Chemistry), Andeno Nelson (Biotechnology) and Dorian Morris (Life Sciences) who were recently awarded Dr. Pauline O. Lawrence & Dr.  Carlton G. Davis (Postgraduate) Scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year. Read below to see what receiving the scholarships means to the recipients:

  • Jacquel Johnson, MSc Food & Agro Processing Technology: “I am sincerely grateful to have been selected as a recipient of this scholarship. With this grant I will be able to finally complete my MSc in Food & Agro Processing Technology. Upon graduating, I hope to use my skillset to improve the Food & Agriculture Industry in Jamaica. I hope to one day serve as a Product Developer as well as a Food & Agro Consultant for Jamaica.  Food is a crucial part of our lives and unfortunately, Jamaica relies too heavily on imports to feed our nation. Not only do we need to look to building up agriculture itself, but to come up with innovative ways to create value-added products from our local crops and livestock. I hope to contribute to the development of high-quality local food products that will both nourish our nation and be used for export to earn foreign exchange”.
  • Andeno Nelson, MSc Biotechnology: “I count it a great honour and privilege to be awarded this prestigious and noble scholarship and words can’t truly express my gratitude.  I am so grateful for this scholarship and the opportunity which it will afford me to pursue my higher education at UWI, the leading university in Jamaica and by extension the Caribbean. I want to thank the organisers, the selection committee, and most importantly Dr. Pauline O. Lawrence and Dr. Carlton G. Davis for the vision they had to facilitate such a gift that can change lives, as it has indeed changed mine, and for that am truly grateful.”
  • Dorian Morris, MSc Agricultural Entrepreneurship: “It is with sincerest gratitude that I consider the award of this scholarship. Upon hearing that I was awarded, I was elated, humbled and very honoured to have even been considered. This scholarship means so much to me. It is a key that will help me to further unlock my educational potential as I traverse this current level of study. It will grant me the financial stability that I need to successfully embark on this journey as well as to complete it successfully with God's help. It will remove the added strain of wondering where the finances will come from to keep me on this path so that I will be able to focus and truly apply myself to the principles, content and constructs that are being taught. Thus, I am eternally grateful for this opportunity and will do my best to keep up to the standard that is expected. So thank you from the core of my being and may God continue to bless, prosper and enable you all to keep reaching out and making a difference as you aid and transform lives”.

The Faculty wishes them continued success in their pursuit of academic excellence.
