Zidane Wright, Computing Student selected for IBM Competitive Research Internship

Over the past nine years or so, a student from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at The UWI, St. Augustine campus has spent a summer at IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center as part of the IBM Research - UWI scholars program. This year St. Augustine campus invited the computing students from Mona and Cave Hill campuses to also take part in the internship programme. After an initial round of interviews at the St. Augustine and Mona campuses, four students from each campus were identified for IBM. After that round of interviews, two students were chosen by IBM, one from each campus. The students were then interviewed with a cloud computing team at IBM.  The successful candidate was Zidane Wright from the Department of Computing, Mona. He will be taking up an internship position this summer in New York at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center.  Dr. Nicholas Fuller of IBM Research, who led the selection process on the IBM side stated: “Overall, the student quality continues to be high (based on the 4 conducted interviews), so in short I would just like to congratulate and continue to support your efforts in making UWI very strong.”
