The Radiation Protection and Nuclear Security Unit offers assistance to users of ionizing radiation throughout the region. The unit also offers assistance to meet the growing need as the peaceful use of ionizing radiation increases. There has been significant investment in the dosimetry program which now boasts two new TLD 6600 Plus readers and an upgraded web based processing system to improve the dosimeter processing efficiency and throughput. The unit is also instrumental in national and regional orphaned source recovery efforts as well as training and education, mainly through collaborations with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Jamaica Customs Agency and the Hazardous Substances Regulatory Authority (the local regulatory body governing the industry).
