Just In Time Course Design Workshop
Designing is an activity that people engage in to improve the quality of their subsequent creations and this is exactly what this Just-In-TIme Course Design workshop will be about.
Three themes will be explored as we sharpen our skills in course design:
- Learner-Centred Teaching
- Constructive Alignment
- Educative Assessment

Blended Learning Bootcamp
The Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) will be hosting a Blended Learning Boot Camp Thursday August 15 – Friday August 16, 2013 (from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day) for all academic staff. This 2-day workshop will address the needs of more advanced users of moodle learning platforms as well as meet the needs of intermediate users.

The theme of this year’s Conference and Workshop is “Affairs of the Heart”. The Sir Kenneth Standard Distinguished Lecture will be given by Professor Augustus Grant, Past President of the American Heart Association and Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical School.

The Symposium will feature: Mutabaruka; Ras Miguel Lorne; Reverend Marjorie LewisMinister Clive Muhhamad ; Baba Mukasa (aka Willie Ricks) ; Chairperson - Dr Michael Barnett.
This Symposium will be followed by an all-day family oriented programme at UTECH on Saturday, May 25th, from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Launch of the Caribbean Branch of the United States (US) Cochrane Centre
The Tropical Medicine Research Institute will host the launch of the Caribbean Branch of the United States (US) Cochrane Centre and an inaugural symposium entitled “Translating Research for Policy Impact and Practice: An Evidence–based Approach”.
The establishment of the Caribbean Branch of the US Cochrane Center is considered a significant development in the effort to provide expertise to support evidence-based healthcare and evidence-informed policy making for the Caribbean Community. Its establishment is also in keeping with the University's strategic objectives of strengthening research & innovation and improving teaching, learning & service to the Caribbean community.

This conference seeks to engage colleagues in a sweeping review of the region taking account of how the complex problems of the contemporary reality are likely to shape CARICOM in the future. The IFIP Working Group 9.4 Conference on Social Implications of Computers in Developing Countries, co-hosted by the University of the West Indies, Mona and ICT4D Jamaica, brings together scholars from information systems, development studies, political science, social anthropology, and sociology to discuss research and practice in the area of information and communication technologies for development.
Caribbean Open Data Conference - 'Developing the Caribbean'
The Caribbean Open Data Conference is a regional technology conference and code sprint, focused on open data, software innovation, and technology trends. The theme “Developing The Caribbean”, highlights the focus on Open Data as a catalyst for regional development, and the role of software development as a locus of innovation.
The eight participating countries are: Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Cuba, Suriname, St. Kitts, Domninican Republic and Guyana.
