Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts

Lunch Hour Concert
The Lunch Hour Concert will take place on Thursday, October 20 and will feature the University Dramatic Arts Society. The Concert begins at 1:00 p.m. and is free.

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, has been selected by the International Institute for Labour Studies in Geneva, Switzerland as the venue to host the Prestigious ILO Nobel Peace Prize Social Policy Lecture Series for 2005.

Study Skills Workshop

The Study Skills Workshop organized by the Counselling Service, University Health Centre will take place on Thursday, October 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1). This week’s topic is “Test Taking Skills.”

UWI Circle K – Key to College Programme

The University of the West Indies – Mona Circle K club is a member of Circle K International, a service organization designed for students in tertiary institutions worldwide. Each year the club embarks on service projects in schools, children’s homes and the surrounding communities.

Conference to celebrate the work of Barry Chevannes

The Department of Sociology, Psychology & Social Work in conjunction with the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the West Indies, Mona is pleased to announce a conference in honour of Professor A. Barrington Chevannes’ lifetime of scholarly work, service and achievement. The conference is scheduled to be held in Kingston from January 19-21, 2006.

Education for Sustainable Development

Education for Development: New Approaches for the Future is the theme of a Caribbean Regional Conference, which will be held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel from October 18 -20. The Conference is a joint effort of the UNESCO Office for the Caribbean, The University of the West Indies in association with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Culture, the United Nations Environment Programme, the Caribbean Network of Teacher Educators and the National Environmental Education Committee.

Lunch Hour Concert

The lunch Hour Concert will take place on Thursday, October 13 and features L’ACADCO and AKWAABA. The concert begins at 1:00 p.m. at the PSCCA and admission is free.

“The Black that I am”
The Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (PSCCA) invites you to the production of “The Black that I am”, performed by the University Players and directed by Brian Heap, Staff Tutor in Drama at the PSCCA. Performances will continue on Saturday October 15 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday October 16 at 5:00 p.m. The cost of tickets is students with ID $200 and others $500.

St. Michael’s Theological College

St. Michael’s Theological College is hosting a free four-week training course on How to Counsel Persons Impacted by HIV and AIDS. Sessions will provide basic information on HIV and AIDS, opportunities for conversation with someone living with HIV, and a discussion of issues in sexuality raised by the pandemic. The next session will be on October 13 and continues on October 20 and 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the College.

World of Work Seminar

Placement and Career Services will once again host its Annual World of Work Seminars beginning on Thursday, October 13 at 3:00 p.m. in the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre. The topic will be Self Assessment: Discovery Skills and Competencies Needed for Organizing Your Job Search. The presenter will be Mrs. Bernita Locke, Vice President of Human Resource at Life of Jamaica. Certificates of participation will be awarded to all students who attend five or more of the seven-part seminar series and each participant will receive a Career Portfolio at the start of the first seminar.
