New Online Catalogue System in January

The three campuses of the University of the West Indies i.e. Mona, Cave Hill and St. Augustine will be implementing a new, state-of-the-art integrated online system in its libraries in 2007. The Mona Campus will launch the system on Wednesday, January 3, 2007. This means that the users of the library will encounter a completely new online catalogue that is more user-friendly and provides improved services.

Perinatal Conference 2007

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Child Health, UWI, Mona will host its Perinatal Conference 2007 under the theme “Perinatal Nutrition” from February 9-10, 2007. The keynote address will be given by Professor Allan Jackson on ‘Long term effects of impaired in utero nutrition.’ There will also be workshops covering several topics including: Breastfeeding, Maternal Nutrition hosted by Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute and Obesity in pregnancy. The Conference will take place in the Main Medical Lecture Theatre located at the University Hospital of the West Indies.

Renowned Novelist Reads at UWI, Mona

The Department of Literatures in English, UWI, Mona, in collaboration with the Jamaica National Bicentenary Committee, invites the University community and the public to hear acclaimed Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe read from his work on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 4 pm at the Undercroft. A prolific novelist, poet and essayist, Chinua Achebe is best known for the canonical texts: Things Fall Apart (1958), No Longer at Ease (1960), Arrow of God (1964), A Man of the People (1966) and Anthills of the Savannah (1987).

Rex Nettleford Fellowship in Cultural Studies 2007

Applications are invited for the Rex Nettleford Fellowship in Cultural Studies for 2007. The Fellowship was established by the Rhodes Scholarships in the Caribbean in 2004 and is in honour of the outstanding contribution of Professor the Honourable, Rex Nettleford to higher education and to cultural life in the Caribbean. The prize is awarded annually.

Road Work at Queen’s Way Entrance and Traffic Light Installation

The University of the West Indies, Mona wishes to advise that construction of a slip road will take place in the vicinity of Queen’s Way Entrance from January 2-16, 2007.
Traffic lights are also expected to be installed at the Queen’s Way Entrance in early February. This is in order to facilitate a smoother flow of traffic thereby preventing undue delay.
The University apologies for any inconvenience resulting from this road work and asks for your usual cooperation in order to ensure a level of normalcy is maintained.

The Mona School of Business Course Offerings

The Mona School of Business (MSB) offers a suite of Executive Development courses beginning in January 2007. Course offerings include: Project Management, Executive Speaking Edge, Meetings that work, Writing for Results: The Essentials of Business Communication which is also offered on a modular basis.

What good wellness habits have you incorporated in your lifestyle? Take a moment to think about them and to congratulate yourself for being consistent in carrying them out. Recommit to doing them regularly.

Application for Higher Degrees Opens

Applications are now invited for suitably qualified persons who wish to pursue higher degree programmes commencing in September 2007. The deadline for the receipt of completed application forms is January 31, 2007. Final year students are advised to apply for entry to the programme of their choice by this deadline. Call for Papers for the Sixth Annual Psychology Conference

The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, Psychology Unit hosts its sixth annual Psychology Conference from February 26-28, 2007. The Department invites the submission of papers on the theme: Impact of Psychology in the Caribbean by January 5, 2007. Both oral and poster presentations will be selected.
