UWI Closure

The University of the West Indies, Mona wishes to advise that its offices will be closed as of 12:30 pm on December 22 until December 27, when office are re-opened. Offices will again cease operation at 12: 30 pm on December 29 and then reopen on January 2, 2007.

UWI To Showcase African Diaspora Films

The Institute of Caribbean Studies, UWI, Mona, in conjunction with Black Filmmaker (BFM), presents a weekend long programme of films depicting the experience of people from the African Diaspora. The selected titles have all been featured at film festivals worldwide, and this special showcase represents the first time that they will be available for public viewing in Jamaica. Admission is free. Some titles are certified for persons over the age of 18.

"Sip and Share"

The University Bookshop salutes its valued customers by hosting its annual Customer Appreciation "Sip and Share" Day on Tuesday, December 12 at 12 noon at the UWI Bookshop. Entertainment will be provided by Sound of Joy and The UWI Bookshop Staff. All are invited to attend this event.

Annual Carol Service

The Annual Carol Service (Festival of the Nine Lessons and Carols) for the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus will be held in the University Chapel, UWI, Mona on Sunday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. The service will be conducted by Reverend Philip Robinson and Reverend Trevor Edwards will deliver the sermon.

Call for Papers for the Sixth Annual Psychology Conference

The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, Psychology Unit hosts its sixth annual Psychology Conference from February 26-28, 2007. The Department invites the submission of papers on the theme: Impact of Psychology in the Caribbean by January 5, 2007. Both oral and poster presentations will be selected.

Caribbean Journal of Education-Call for Papers

The School of Education invites the submission of papers for the Caribbean Journal of Education for a special issue on Language Use and the Jamaican Education System by January 30, 2007. Papers should focus on the Jamaican Creole and the Jamaican English Language usage and the implications for the education system under seven specified sub themes.

CARISCIENCE Presents 'Science and Technology in South Africa Today’ Lecture

A consortium of CARISCIENCE which consists of the Scientific Research Council, the Jamaican Society for Scientists and Technologists, the National Commission for Science and Technology, the University of Technology, and the University of the West Indies, presents a lecture by Dr. Khotso Mokhele on 'Science and Technology in South Africa Today’ on Friday December 15 at 6:00 p.m., in Chemistry Lecture Room 5 (Chem. 5) of the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.

Centre for Caribbean Thought Rap Session

The Centre for Caribbean Thought, Department of Government, presents a "Rap Session" with Professor Manning Marable, Historian, Political Theorist, Journalist and Human Rights Activist. The session will be held on Monday, December 11 in SR 8, Faculty of Social Sciences at 10:00 a.m.

Foreign Language Assistants Programme in France

The Embassy of France is allocating positions to Jamaican English Language Assistant each academic year in the mainland of France as well as in the Guadeloupe and Martinique. The programme aims to allow Jamaican foreign assistants to master the French language and customs while providing French students with the authenticity of their language and the richness of their culture.
This programme is open to Jamaican professionals and students aged 20 to 30. All candidates should have the equivalent of an Associate Degree and a fair knowledge of spoken French.

Graduation Photographs

The photographs taken at the 2006 Graduation ceremonies are now available and may be collected at the Public Relations Office during working hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Mondays – Fridays). Portrait photographs taken by graduates may be collected from 2¼ Works Studio, located at 59 Hope Road from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
We also would like to remind graduates who took graduation photographs over the past fifteen (15) years that they may be collected from the Public Relations Office, Gibraltar Hall Road, Mona Campus.
