UWI Athletes Receive Awards
In an effort to enhance sports on campus, the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus awarded ten (10) accommodation grants to student-athletes who have excelled academically while representing the University in various sporting activities over the past academic year. At the recently held Ceremony, grants totalling $700,000.00 were awarded; with recipients receiving grants ranging from $43,960.00 to $81,012.00. The funds will cover the fees for the hall of residence for the student.
UWI Scholarship Examination 2007 Application Opens
The annual UWI Scholarship Examination application process is now open for students applying to read for degree in August 2007 and current first year students who began their degree programme August 2006 and are not holders of other full scholarships or possess an undergraduate degree. The examination takes place Monday and Tuesday, March 5 and 6, 2007 respectively from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon each day.
UWI School of Continuing Studies Course Offerings
The University of the West Indies, School of Continuing Studies – Jamaica Eastern (Camp Road) is inviting applications for its Easter Term 2007 which begins on January 8. Registration runs from November 27 to December 8 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
“The Voice of the Decision Makers”
The Mona School of Business (MSB) in association with the Caribbean Business Club Jamaica presents “The Voice of the Decision Makers”, a series of debates and panel discussions on topical issues affecting Jamaica at the Executive Lecture Theatre, MSB on Tuesday, November 28 at 6:30 pm. The topic for debate from International Debaters of the UWI and the key stakeholders of this event is “Do Developing Countries Benefit from Hosting a Major Event?”
The University Community and the public are invited.
Edwin Jones Symposium
“21st Century Public Sector Management: The Way Forward” is the theme of the Symposium being hosted by the Department of Government, UWI, Mona. The Symposium bears the name of the honouree, Professor Emeritus of the Department, Edwin Jones. There will be an official Opening Ceremony on Friday, November 24 at 6 pm at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona with remarks being brought by His Excellency, the Most Honourable Professor Kenneth Hall.
Coffee and Literary Night
The Mary Seacole Hall presents Coffee and Literary Night, a celebration of the written and spoken word, on Friday, November 24 at 8:30 pm in the Dining Room. The theme for the event is “Tell Your Story” featuring: Professor Edward Baugh, Dr. Carolyn Cooper, Mary Seacole Hall Society, Benito, Melanin, African Pride and Steppa. There will also be an After Party. Admission is free, so come out and let your voice be heard.
UWI TO HOST REGGAE DANCEHALL BOOK LAUNCH
The Reggae Studies Unit at the University of the West Indies, Mona, will host the launch of the book What the Deejay Said: A Critique from the Street!’ written by the sociologist Dr. William Henry on Friday, November 24, at 5 pm in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), UWI, Mona. Dr. Henry was born in the UK of Jamaican parents and is a Reggae Dancehall Deejay, who performs as ‘Lezlee Lyrix.’
Annual World of Work Seminars
The Office of Placement and Career Services Annual World of Work Seminars hosts its final seminar this Thursday, November 23 at 3:00 pm in Seminar Room 10 (SR10), Faculty of Social Sciences, UWI, Mona. The topic is “Wealth Management Ensuring Financial Success” and will be presented by Pamela Douglas of Investment Field Consultant, Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica Limited.
These series of seminars, focused on assisting students (prospective employees) to develop skills and competencies needed to enhance their academics in order to be successful in the world of work.
Choir Fest: A Time to Sing
The Rex Nettleford Hall presents its annual celebration of musical talent in the form of a Choir Fest: A Time to Sing on Wednesday, November 22 at 7 pm in the Rex Hall Multi-Purpose Room. The event will feature pieces from the Rex, Irvine, Preston, Taylor, Seacole choir, the UWI Panoridim among others. Admission for students with ID cards is J$100 and J$150 without ID Cards.
Faculty of Humanities and Education Awards Ceremony
The annual Humanities and Education Faculty Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 23 in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1) at 2:00 p.m. The event is designed to recognize outstanding students in academics from the Faculty. The guest speaker will be Ian Randle from Ian Randle Publishers.
Members of the University community and the public are invited to attend.
