UWI Summer Football Mania 2008
The Sports Department at the UWI, Mona is hosting the inaugural staging of the UWI Summer Football Mania, themed “Unearthing Talent”, aimed at offering a productive alternative for youth during the summer months. The Summer Mania takes place from Monday to Friday, July 21 to August 1, 2008 at the UWI Mona Bowl.
Renaming of Advanced Training and Research in Fertility Management Unit
The Advanced Training and Research in Fertility Management Unit of the University of the West Indies, Mona will be renamed in honour of Professor Hugh Wynter, first director of the Unit, on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 3 pm. The building will be renamed the Hugh Wynter Fertility Management Unit.
The Unit is being renamed to honour the outstanding contribution of Professor Wynter who was instrumental in the establishment and development of the Unit until his retirement. The event also forms a part of the University’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
Professor Eric Cruickshank Memorial Lecture
The Department of Medicine at The University of the West Indies, Mona in celebration of the University’s 60th anniversary hosts the Professor Eric Cruickshank Memorial Lecture. The lecture takes place on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 5 pm at the Main Lecture Theatre located at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Sir George Allyene, Chancellor of The University of the West Indies will deliver the lecture entitled “Extending the Art of Medicine”.
CARALL AGM & Conference
The Caribbean Associaion of Law Librarians (CARALL) hosts its 23rd Annual General Meeting and Conference on July 7-9, 2008 at the Hilton Kingston Hotel. The theme of the Conference is “Viable, Vital and Vibrant: Be Prepared to Succeed.”
“Caribbean Impact, Global Reach”
“Caribbean Impact, Global Reach” is the title of the Accounting Symposium taking place on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 8:30 am at the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre (SSLT), UWI, Mona. The keynote address will be delivered by Chair and Professor of Accountancy, University of Akron, Professor Thomas Calderon.
UWI Convocation Week
The University of the West Indies 60th anniversary celebrations will climax during mid July at Mona as the University marks its anniversary with a Convocation Week. The week of celebration begins with the Chancellor’s Reception at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 6:30 pm and is followed by several activities on Sunday, July 13, 2008 namely a Golf Tournament at 7 am, then an Inter Faith Thanksgiving Service at the UWI Chapel at 9 am, Brunch at the Senior Common Room at 11 am and Jazz Goes to UWI at 7 pm.

Inaugural Professorial Lecture-Professor Paul Reese
“Transforming Nature’s Bounty: A Trek through the Chemistry of Some Plants and Fungi” is the title of the inaugural professorial lecture being delivered by Dr. Paul Reese, Professor of Organic Chemistry, UWI, Mona. The lecture takes place on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 6 pm at the New Chemistry Lecture Theatre (Chem 5), UWI, Mona.
