2024 SOE Biennial Conference

The Schools of Education at The University of the West Indies are pleased to announce their Biennial Conference 2024 under the theme "Revolutionizing Caribbean Education: Cultivating Critical Competences in a Shifting Landscape" to be held July 8-10, 2024 in Kingston, Jamaica. Crises such as climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside the augmented nature of artificial intelligence and its applications, underscore the world’s rapidly changing nature and complexity. Consequently, the educational landscape has had to rapidly evolve to respond to the impacts of these and similar phenomena on teaching and learning. It is our hope that this forum will provide an opportunity for education stakeholders to engage with the competences needed for this rapidly changing and complex world.

We therefore invite abstract submissions from educational stakeholders at all levels. Consequently, this invitation targets policy-makers, university lecturers, principals, teachers, teacher educators, education officers, guidance counsellors, deans of discipline, researchers in academia and industry, and research students.

Abstracts for conceptual papers, empirical research and literature reviews may be submitted in any of the following categories:

  • Poster presentation. One page visual presentations with text and pictures that summarise your research. These are displayed on poster boards during the conference. However, presenters are expected to be present to discuss their poster with attendees during designated time-slots.
  • Paper presentation (20 minutes). Individual oral presentations. Three or four presentations in a session related to a common idea or theme.
  • Roundtable discussion (90 minutes). Small-group discussions led by a speaker who presents a topic and leads the discussion.
  • Panel presentation  (90 minutes). A session where a moderator facilitates conversation among panelists about a specific topic. The discussion typically begins with opening remarks by each panelist. Follow-up questions from both the moderator or the audience is an important feature of panel presentations.
