With several consecutive years of top-level success on the local volleyball circuit, the UWI Volleyball Club intends to take it literally ‘to the world’ this season, according to club president Dr. Ricardo Chong.

“We are including in our plans for this year, at least one or two overseas sojourns”, said Chong, who was making a presentation to new and returning members recently.

There are at least two regular international volleyball tournaments on the local calendar, the club’s own UWI Invitational, as well as the longstanding Venus Invitational Tournament. “We have opportunities to play overseas teams at these tournaments, however playing at home and playing away, are two separate experiences”, Chong exlplained.

While the various overseas opportunities including a possible entry in next year’s US Open Tournament are being actively explored, the club is in high gear with arrangements for other local activities. It has already started its pre- season fitness programme, with a strong contingent of new members.  Also underway is the planning for the UWI Invitational Tournament which should take place in the latter part of this year.
