Sports Development

The University of the West Indies,(UWI) Mona has embarked on an exciting new phase of sports development to cover:

  • the development of world class sports facilitities for training
  • competition and recreation
  • support for physical, mental and psychological well-being of athletes
  • research
  • drug testing
  • linkage of sports to community development

This new thrust will expand the scope of the University's operations, facilitating collaboration and partnerships which will build on UWI's strengths, while positioning the institution to take advantage of changes and opportunites onthe sports horizon.

The UWI has an international reputation as the premier tertiary level institution in the region, committed to quality in teaching, research and the promotion of Caribbean Culture and Development. UWI recognizes the importance of sports in the overall development of the community and affirms its determination and commitment to provide the necessary training and competiton facilities to encorage participation in a wide range of sporting activities by our students.

Building on its long tradition in the relevant areas, the University is also well placed to take the lead in providing research, service and training in the broad areas of sports and sports development. UWI, Mona offers the student -athlete in Jamaica and the Caribbean international competitive athletic facilities and programmes while they pursue quality UWI programmes.
