Partnerships for Athletic Development

The UWI, Mona has signed an innovative partnership agreement with the Jamaica Football Federation that will provide the framework for transformation of the football and academic landscapes, facilitating the development of new academic programmes and the practical aspect of the UWI's Physiotherapy Sports Medicine Programmes.

meetingThis collaboration will involve the establishment of a Football Academy which will provide an excellent training facility for the support of the human and physcial resources to sustain the growth of football at player, coach and official levels in Jamaica. Itwill include three football fields, an Academy Centre building and dormitories.

The Football Academy will have two separate units: the Competition Facility and the Academy Centre:

The Competition Facility

This has been designed as a mini-Stadium, with a competition football field encircled by a Mondo track, and initially comprising 3,000 seats with a development to expand to 5,500-6,000 spectator capacity.

The Academy Centre

There will be holistic apporach to the development of the individual footballer who will have all the necessary support needs provided under one roof. It will include:

  • Office and training/conference rooms for the JFF's Technical Directorate Team to support its training and development programme needs.
  • A Sports Medicine Complex and a Gym
