Orientation 2009

The introduction of sports to incoming students was delivered in an uncharacteristic manner. It was interactive and with high energy and participatory. There was a mix of sports and entertainment throughout the day’s activities combined with an outside broadcast from sports & lifestyle station Fame FM.

A musical devotion by those assembled started off the days activities. This was followed by an introduction of the sports staff and the programme offerings within the department.  This delivery was supplemented with testimonials from a number of our successful athletes on campus in different sports. The physical interaction began with an aerobics meltdown conducted by a UWI Mona Sports Alum Kimberly Rudder and included participants who volunteered from the floor. They won prizes thru out one hour long programme with the last five participants on the floor winning prises of gift certificates from UWI Bookshop, t shirts and other sports paraphernalia. The top male & female finishers won cell phones. An exhausted group of students were then entertained by the Guild of students with dancers and entertainers. Following the lunch break a mini triathlon which included swimming and obstacle course and running along with beach football matches with 1st year teams were executed.

Fame Fm in their usual entertaining presentation had competitive activity sessions for the students, gave out prizes and spoke with students and staff during their four hour broadcast.
