The UWI Sports Department has teamed up with its counterparts at the University of Technology, Jamaica to create The UWI/UTECH, Jamaica Sports Championship. This event will match the UWI Pelicans and the UTECH, Jamaica Knights against each other in five sporting disciplines all on one day. The event will be held on September 18th, 2010 at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus between the hours 9:30am - 7:30pm.
The five sports contested are: 20/20 Cricket, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Basketball, Netball, and Men’s Football. All matches will be contested in the shortened version of the game to ensure matches are fast paced and intense.
The championship is slated to be an annual event with host responsibilities alternated between the two campuses. The event is designed to create an avenue through which the rivalry between the two leading universities can be built and synonymously develop the individual school spirits.

The UWI, Mona ranks first in Jamaica among accredited tertiary-level programmes. In 2012, the University was again one of Jamaica’s Top 100 Employers.
