The UWI A Women's Volleyball team 'spiked' away to victory at the recently concluded UWI Pelican Volleyball Invitational. The UWI Pelicans served 25-14 defeat in the 3rd set to collect the cash prize of US $1000 along with medals and other prizes. 
Meanwhile Deacons from Barbados defeated Vikings out of Westmoreland in the Men's Division (3-2) to take home the title.
This year marked the sixth staging the UWI Pelican Volleyball Invitational. The event this year as in times past was a success thanks to a collaborative effort between the UWI Mona Sports Department and the UWI Volleyball Club. The three day event held in the UWI Gymnasium from November 18-20, 2011 attracted teams from all over the Caribbean and the World; including Jamaica(Including our very own UWI Teams) , USA, Trinidad,Bahamas,Suriname, Barbados and Cayman Islands.
We are anticipating bigger and better things for the Invitation come 2012.
Our 7 faculties and 12 professional schools offer more than 200 programmes to some 18,000 graduate, undergraduate and continuing studies students.
The UWI, Mona ranks first in Jamaica among accredited tertiary-level programmes. In 2012, the University was again one of Jamaica’s Top 100 Employers.
