Pelican Ballers Aiming for Championship Title

With the conclusion of the Intercollegiate Basketball 2012 season ending in controversy for the UWI Pelican Male Basketball Team, the Pelican girls seeks to regain some justice for the UWI Pelicans as they will open their Intercol season on Saturday February 25, 2012 at the UWI Mona Bowl at 6pm.

The team is coached by Ronald Beckford, who has high hopes for this season as the girls have been training diligently from the start of the 2011/2012 academic year. The team, led by Captain Danielle Long, has an interesting mix of personalities from UWI all rounder, Sherona Forrester to Bahamian new comer, Elvi Pinder and a host of new talented additions to the squad.  Beckford states that the squad is a dynamic and enthused about the upcoming season; he is very confident of their capabilities due to the intense preparation, the focus determination and mindset the players have undertaken since last term.
 

This year’s Pelican ballers are aiming for the Intercollegiate Championship title and Beckford believes they can do it as anything else will be deem as less than the team’s best. When asked about the future of basketball at the University, Beckford states that he is aiming to build a first class basketball program in which the teams would be able to compete at the top level against top universities. He believes wholeheartedly in the star potential of the players and hopes that this upcoming season can generate some buzz around campus about the sport.
