World University Games Gold and Silver Medalists Hansle Parchment and Jason Young are set to participate in the Samsung Diamond League on Saturday, June 9, 2012 in New York City. The prestigious event which is sanctioned by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) will feature world class athletes and is a welcomed challenge to both sprinters who will for the first time participate in a meet of this magnitude.

Hansle Parchment, who has been making a name for himself on the local circuit, says he is "expecting to go out and perform to the best of his abilities." Parchment is set to compete against the likes of Rayn Braithwaite, Aries Merrit, Dayron Robbles and Dwight Thomas. Late last year Hansle Parchment rose to fame when he took home gold in the 110 meter Hurdles at the World University Games in a time of 13.24secs to make him the third fastest Jamaican of all times in the event. He later lowered his Personal Best to 13.19secs at the Jamaica National Invitational Track and Field meet held at the National Stadium this year.

Jason Young is deemed to be a 'rising star' in the 100 meter and 200 meter sprint events, in an interview, Young states that he is "going out to execute and do his best, that's my main aim." The 100 meter 'B' race for men will see Young going up against athletic super star Tyson Gay. Young gained much recognition when he won the silver medal in the 200 meter at the World University Games held in China last year. He would further establish his name in the local sprinting arena when he recorded a Personal Best of 10.19secs over 100 meters at the Jamaica National Invitational Track and Field meet held at the National Stadium.

The University of the West Indies, Mona Sports Department would like to wish for our athletes all the best as they work toward achieving another milestone in their athletic careers and do hope they will continue to make Jamaica proud.
