In this study of cancer mortality in Antigua and Barbuda, gender-specific cancers accounted for approximately half of the cancer deaths. Mortality/incidence ratios greater than 1 suggest that there may be incomplete data capture of the incidence.
ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the cancer mortality rates in Antigua and Barbuda in an effort to enhance the profile of the country’s cancer burden.
Method: Available data for 2001 to 2005 were analysed to obtain cancer mortality rates. Analysis was also made of the mortality/incidence ratios.
Iodine deficiency is likely to play a role in thyroid cancer. The use of iodized products such as salt, water, and bread should be provided to people who live in areas with endemic iodine deficiency.
ABSTRACT
Introduction: The incidence of thyroid cancer has been increasing in recent years. In this study, the clinical and laboratory findings of 14 patients with thyroid cancer were analysed retrospectively. They were admitted to our clinic with complaints of swelling of the neck.
