Description

The BScN programme is offered through the Faculty of Medical Sciences. It is designed to:

  • Train students to respond to, promote, restore and maintain the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.
  • Expose students to the theoretical and clinical elements of the nursing profession.
  • Expose students to various areas of specialty in nursing to include: Medical-Surgical Nursing, Maternal and Child Health Nursing, Paediatric Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Community and Public Health Nursing, Emergency Room Nursing, Operating Room Nursing, and Critical Care Nursing.

On successful completion of the programme, graduates will be eligible:

  • to sit the qualifying regional examination through the Nursing Council of Jamaica which allows you to practice with ease in any CARICOM country.  
  • for employment in the healthcare field immediately after getting your license.

Matriculation Requirements:

Five CSEC/CXC/GCE subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics or Chemistry are all compulsory PLUS one other subject specified by the Nursing Council of Jamaica.

AND

A minimum of 2 CAPE subjects at grades 1 – IV (both units). Subjects must include 1 from the following: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Duration of Programme: 4 years
