Reaching New Heights
...WOW, honestly the toughest life hurdle I have encountered to date. However, The Mona Faculty of Engineering was a promise of hard work and the guarantee of success that would surely follow. My three years were an extraordinary combination of practical experience, patience and troubleshooting training all topped off by the wisdom of a plethora of senior lecturers willing to challenge and guide our young minds to prominence in the various fields of engineering. I was fortunate to benefit from a relatively small cohort of engineering classmates and we were constantly given time, attention, and the chance to learn from our mistakes. The greatest test faced by engineering students worldwide is overcoming the challenges associated with completing their final year project and I am pleased to say that my Project aligned well with my courses. The nature of my project enhanced my resume and helped me put my best foot forward along my engineering career....
I am currently working in the position of a UHC Processing Engineer. The programme met my expectations and I can add that the programme was way better than I anticipated. It benefited me in many ways, as I am able to apply what was learnt in my everyday performance at work. In addition, I must commend the Faculty for ensuring that a presentation component is included in each course. This help students to be more assertive and confident when presenting in a work setting or otherwise. This programme also built the platform for me being who I am today, that is a proud engineer graduate from the University of the West Indies, Mona.
The Faculty of Engineering, UWI Mona is the home of great innovative minds. The Electronics Engineering program helped me to develop troubleshooting, critical thinking and problem-solving skills which serve me well in my career today. It also facilitated the birth of many lifelong connections and partnerships. I am proud to have attended this world-class institution.
The program was new but the relevance of the courses was clear from the start. I got a very good hands-on introduction to engineering concepts with in-depth supporting theory to ensure we knew why things are the way they are. I was able to learn engineering from simple wood work and welding up to the designing and building of complex devices that solved real world problems. I mostly appreciate being coached to be a solution-oriented engineer. In my career thus far that has been my greatest asset.
