Masters of Science in Speech & Language Pathology

 

Criteria for admission of students-Students entering the programme should normally be graduates of an undergraduate programme but are not expected to have a background in Speech and Language Science or Speech and Language Pathology – hence the inclusion of a preliminary year in the programme. The programme is offered full-time only, consisting of three or four regular courses per semester plus a Clinical Practicum which may take up to 20 hours per week. The preliminary/ qualifying year includes courses in the anatomy and physiology of the head, neck and chest; courses in phonetics/phonology and audiology; courses in normal and abnormal language development; as well as an introductory-level course in normal and abnormal psychology. The mode of delivery will be mainly face to face. However, the use of the services of specialists elsewhere may be necessary and this may necessitate the streaming of some course modules from other universities.
