Shock, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography plus surgery, advanced age, low platelet count, presence of co-morbidities, door to treatment time > 24 hours, hypoproteinaemia and hyperbilirubinaemia were the independent risk factors for death of elderly patients with acute obstructive suppurative cholangitis.

Objective: Several randomized trials have been done to compare fluoroquinolones alone with the combination therapy of β-lactams plus macrolides for treating community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in adults. However, the efficacy and safety between the two arms are still unclear.
