An Autopsy Series: Lightning-related Deaths in Van and Hakkâri Provinces, Turkey

Synopsis: 
This study reported one of the largest series of lightning-related deaths in Turkey. The literature on this subject was reviewed, and similarities and differences between autopsy findings of the presented series and literature information were defined. From January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2015, 11 lightning-related fatalities occurred in Van and Hakkari Provinces, Turkey.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To report the largest series of lightning-related deaths in Turkey, to review the literature on this subject, and to identify similarities and differences between the autopsy findings in this study and the information available in literature.

Burn injuries are a leading cause of paediatric admissions worldwide, with the majority of cases being preventable. This study analyses the underlying causes of paediatric burn injuries in Jamaican children in an effort to establish local preventive measures.
