Sir,

A 15-year old girl presented with rapid respiration and excessive water consumption and urine production. At physical examination, her general condition was average, and she was lucid, oriented and cooperative. Respiratory acidosis was present.

This is a patient with septicaemia and diabetic ketoacidosis who developed an acute ischaemic lower
limb from an arterial thrombus. The patient had decreased protein S function.
