Allan Sappleton was recently awarded a PhD in Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health (2024) from the Faculty of Science and Technology at The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona. Under the supervision of Alvaro Taveira, his thesis focused on “Testing a Model of Workers Risk Perception as a Mediator for Group Safety Climate and Safety Behaviour in a Jamaican Company.”
Allan’s academic journey commenced at Edwin Allen High School, where he completed his GCE O levels. He then continued his education at Clarendon College, completing his 6th form studies. Following that, he enrolled at the University of the West Indies, where he graduated with upper second-class honors in Chemistry and Biological Sciences.
Subsequently, he pursued a part-time Diploma in Management Studies, graduating with distinction. His commitment to furthering his education led him to obtain an MSc in Resource Planning and Management from the University of Aberdeen. Additionally, he earned a Diploma in Occupational Health from the National Institute for Working Life in Sweden.
In 2009, he enrolled in the Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health course offered by The University of the West Indies' Chemistry Department. This pursuit culminated in an MSc with distinction, an MPhil transfer upgrade, and ultimately, a PhD.
