Biotech hosts Farmers' Workshop focused on Yam Disease

On Tuesday, November 26 the Biotechnology Centre within the Faculty of Science and Technology hosted a farmers' training workshop in the Science Lecture Theatre 1, entitled "Controlling the Yam Anthracnose Disease". The programme was moderated by Ms Racquel Wright and opened by the Dean and Executive Director of the Biotech. Centre, Prof. Helen Asemota while greetings were brought by Hon. Fayval Williams, Minister of Science, Energy and Technology and the Member of Parliament for the St Andrew Eastern constituency. Also on the programme for the opening session were Prof. Paul Brown from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, The UWI Mona; Professor Vincent Wright, Northern Caribbean University College of Natural and Applied Sciences Allied Health and Nursing; Professor Patience Alonge; and Dr. Cliff Riley, Scientific Research Council.

The programme also included sessions which took place in the Biotechnology Centre Lab 1 where the Yam Anthracnose Disease and Backyard Tissue Culture were the main areas of discussion. Pictures of participants in the lab are seen below:
