The Department of Chemistry in association with the FST Dean’s Office staged a Periodic Table Challenge under the theme “Chemistry: It’s Elemental”. 

During the week of November 11- 15, 2009 FST students were tested on their knowledge of the chemical elements, their discovery, and their properties. Two clues were placed daily on notice boards within the faculty as well as on the FST Instagram page. At the end of five days students submitted their 10 answers in a box provided in the Chemistry office.

Over 40 entries were received. The first three contestants who correctly answered the questions were selected as winners. The prizes and certificates of merit were presented during a meeting of the UWI Chemical Society on Thursday November 21, 2019.  

The prize for first place was $5000 cash and was awarded to Mr. Kai Bernard, the second-place prize of $3000 was presented to Ms. Kasha Richards and third place went to Ms. Amanda Reid who received $2000. In addition to their cash awards the winners also received gift items such as UWI memorabilia, stationery, and molecular modelling sets.
