Sargassum continues to pose a significant issue for the Caribbean with the 2021 season projected to be a major Sargassum year. In March 2021,  the Centre for Marine Sciences (CMS, Dept. of Life Sciences) conducted a virtual workshop titled “Training & Trialing: the Collection, Processing and Shipping of Sargassum” in an attempt to help build resilience in the region. Prof. Mona Webber was the main presenter and the workshop was conducted on behalf of the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) under their project: “Developing Sargassum Products for Climate Resilience in the Caribbean.” The workshop was attended by 43 participants from around the Caribbean.
