Deliver value to the organization in such a way that they forget that you are an intern, says Mr. Jackson at Math Summer Internship Launch

The Department of Mathematics Summer Internship Launch was held on Thursday, April 13, 2023. The twenty-five (25) students along with members from the Department and the Dean’s Office listened to keynote speaker Mr. Timar Jackson (FST Alum and Rhodes Scholar) deliver a riveting presentation which reminded them that (i) it does matter where you start, it is the destination that counts (ii) an Internship is your first interview for a permanent position and (iii) you should deliver value to the organization in such a way that they forget that you are an intern. Mr Jackson who is currently the Assistant Vice President in Origination and Structuring at NCB Capital Markets was introduced by Ms. Ruth-Ann Blair, an aspiring actuary. Other specially invited guests were Mr. Aldington Smith from Jamaica Public Service Company Limited and Mrs. Alecia Newell-Williams from Statistical Institute of Jamaica. The students were very receptive to all the presentations as indicated in the vote of thanks by Ms. Amanda Morgan, an exemplary student in the Department. The Launch was coordinated by Dr. Nordia Thomas (Lecturer), Horace Johnson (Lecturer) and Amanda Wisdom (Administrator) from the Department of Mathematics.
