Demystifying the PhD – Introduction to Research Methodologies online webinar

Organised by the University of Leeds in collaboration with the University of the West Indies and YCEDE (The Yorkshire Consortium for Equity in Doctoral Education).

This online session aims to provide prospective and current UK Black, Asian and ethnically minoritised PGR students with information, advice and guidance on the different research methodologies utilised in postgraduate research across different subject areas.

The interactive session will cover quantitative and qualitative research methods, data collection and creating an item or performance and allow students to understand which methodologies might suit their topics of interest.

We are delighted to be joined by Dr Ricardo Anderson, Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of West Indies, Mona and Global Security Fellow in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds.

Dr Ricardo Anderson

Dr. Ricardo Anderson is a Lecturer in the Department of Computing at the University of the West Indies, Mona, where he currently teaches Software Engineering and Data Science courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and serves as coordinator for postgraduate programmes in Applied Data Science. He has mentored several graduate students to completion of theses and research projects. His research interests include Knowledge Management Systems (KMS), Knowledge Discovery in Databases and Data Mining (KDDM), Machine Learning (ML) and Intelligent Systems. His work currently covers the development of novel techniques for knowledge acquisition from data and the use of KDDM, ML and KMS in several domains including social welfare, health, and education. Dr. Anderson has published papers in several peer reviewed journals and conferences. He has also published an edited book and has contributed chapters in two others. Dr. Anderson holds a PhD in Computer Science (with high commendation), a MSc. In Information Systems and is a project management professional (PMP). He is the 2023 Global Security Perspective Network Fellow at the University of Leeds where is engaged in several transdisciplinary research and outreach activities.
